Firebrand Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the former Press Secretary for Donald Trump and current governor of Arkansas, is set to sign an executive order targeting “woke” language.
Arguing that “government should reject language that ignores, undermines, and erases women,” the Republican governor will reportedly order the elimination of “woke, anti-women words” in state government documents.
“The science is clear and real,” Sanders said. “There are things only women can do, like perform the miracle of birth. Government should reject language that ignores, undermines, and erases women; Government should celebrate gender distinctions between men and women – not erase them.”
Sanders is pushing back against movements — in government, businesses and education — to “remove femininity from terms used to describe women,” according to a report by Fox News.
Sanders noted the encroaching woke initiatives are currently masked in neutral or positive-sounding phrases such as “culturally conscious,” “affirming” or “inclusive language.”
Last spring, the Arkansas Department of Health issued a memo that intentionally avoided associating pregnancy with biological women, noting on their drinking water warning that certain substances could be harmful to “pregnant people.”
Sanders’ new order will require state offices to use the terms “pregnant women” or “pregnant mom” when describing someone who is expecting a child, and law enforcement agencies to identify those charged with a crime as male or female, based on their biological sex rather than preferred identity.
Sanders opposes efforts to denigrate or remove femininity from the public square. As the first woman to serve as Arkansas governor, Sanders has sharply criticized President Biden for supporting “woke” initiatives, referring to him as “the first man to surrender his presidency to a woke mob that can’t tell you what a woman is.”
A Fox News report noted several examples of “woke” government policies that target femininity.
The city of Portland has urged government offices to adopt a more “culturally conscious” vocabulary and not use potentially harmful words such as “women,” “Caucasian” or “citizen.”
An elementary school in Vermont recently informed parents it would be removing “male” and “female” language from its fifth-grade science lessons regarding the human body.
A Missouri school district has adopted the use of “they/them” pronouns in math class to help kids’ “mathematical identities.”
Michigan State University recently released an “inclusive” language guide that suggested during “winter and spring, [students and faculty should] avoid references to majority religious imagery and language, such as the word “merry” or “Christmas trees,” “wreaths,” “holly,” “bells,” “gifts,” “reindeer,” “bunnies,” “eggs” and “chicks.”
Sanders also criticized the inclusion of biological males in women’s sports.
Her executive order is scheduled to be signed on Thursday. An advance look at the statement she will make while signing the order reads: “We are all here to say enough. Enough trying to erase women and girls. Enough denying our biological differences from men. Enough of the craziness taking over our country.”
