A statement from Rep. Victoria Spartz explaining her decision against seeking reelection was posted to Twitter by Daily Caller correspondent Henry Rodgers.

“It’s been my honor representing Hoosiers in the Indiana State Senate and U.S. Congress and I appreciate the strong support on the ground,” Spartz said in her statement. “2024 will mark seven years of holding elected office and over a decade in Republican politics. I won a lot of tough battles for the people and will work hard to win a few more in the next two years.”

“However, being a working mom is tough and I need to spend more time with my two high school girls back home, so I will not run for any office in 2024,” the Indiana congresswoman added.

Her announcement to forego running for any race means she will not seek reelection or run for Republican Sen. Mike Braun’s seat. Braun plans to run for state governor.

Rep. Jim Banks will not have to endure a potentially bruising primary to replace Braun now that Spartz and former Gov. Mitch Daniels bowed out.

Spartz became a naturalized U.S. citizen after marrying her husband. She became the first Ukrainian-born member of Congress when she was elected in 2020.

She visited embattled Ukrainian cities, such as Buch and Kyiv, in April 2022. Spartz and Sen. Steve Daines, (R-MT) were the first U.S. officials to visit the country after the Russians invaded, according to a Daily Caller report.

Spartz criticized President Joe Biden’s response to the Russian invasion, saying the U.S. has not armed Ukraine quickly enough.

“This president needs to get his act together and exercise some leadership,” Spartz declared in March 2022. “What’s happening under his watch is [an] atrocity. What he’s doing to this country and to the world is unforgivable.”

“He must act decisively fast or this blood of many millions of Ukrainians will be on his hands too,” the congresswoman added.
