Conservative NBA star Jonathan Isaac, who made headlines in recent years for refusing to take a knee during the playing of America’s national anthem, has announced a new shoe line.
In a move sure to elicit both praise and condemnation, Isaac’s new shoes will feature a Bible verse.
The new shoes will be marketed under the brand, “We Are Unitus.” Isaac pledges the new brand will reflect his faith and values.
The first shoe, dubbed “Judah 1,” will be released on Nov. 16 and offered in five color patterns.
Trending Politics reported that Isaac teased the coming shoe in a video featuring a cross in the background and that Isaac’s venture represents the “first time a basketball sneaker prominently features Bible verses.”
Isaac shared he hoped the shoes would inspire people to promote positive values. Each shoe will include a Bible verse that has resonated with “my journey and identity,” the NBA star said.
Noting that wearing the shoe is more than a statement of faith, Isaac shared that the shoe is also high-performance sports gear.
Of the shoe, Isaac said: “It’s robust, it is strong, and so I’m excited for people to check it out and get their hands on it.”
The NBA star added: “So whether you are on a basketball court, whether you’re a teacher, whether you are a mailman, you have the opportunity to walk in true greatness by the decision that you make each and every day.”
Isaac was the center of controversy during the height of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020. Isaac was in the extreme minority of NBA players refusing to take a knee during the national anthem.
The NBA star/minister of the Gospel has stated he believes the teachings of Jesus Christ are the answer to racial tension and inequality.
Though he has received backlash for his conservative views, the announcement of the new shoe line could be a defining moment in Isaac’s career.
Isaac’s teaser video, which has been viewed more than 1.4 million times in 2 days, begins with the phrase, “To live bold means standing up for what you believe in.”
