Sex Pistols rocker John Lydon has told fellow Golden State residents Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to “f – – k off” in a shocking new interview.
London-born Lydon, 67, relocated to Malibu more than three decades ago, but he’s hardly welcoming of fellow British expat Prince Harry, who moved with Markle to nearby Montecito in 2019.
The punk musician — who was formally known by his stage name Johnny Rotten — raged against the “spiteful” prince and his wife, telling the Telegraph on Thursday that the couple couldn’t stop speaking out — despite allegedly asking for privacy.
“If you want to be normal and outside of [the royal family], then f – – k off. Just f – – k off and shut up!” he declared.
Lydon’s lambasting of the former royals comes as a shock, given that the Sex Pistols’ most famous track was the anti-monarchy anthem “God Save the Queen.”
The 1977 song — which includes the lyrics “God save the queen/ the fascist regime” and “God save the queen/she’s not a human being” — shocked many upon its release, with critics claiming it was “an assault” on Queen Elizabeth II.
Lydon was the lead singer of the Sex Pistols from 1975 to 1978.
That same year, he founded the band Public Image Ltd.
In his interview with the Telegraph, the musician claimed he had previously been in similar situations as Harry and Markle, feuding with other public figures.
However, he had chosen not to publicly complain about his private grievances.
“I’ve had to make decisions like this in the past,” he stated.
“I had to leave the Pistols, I had to break up PiL a couple of times because the situation was unsustainable. And if that was their dilemma then please go away, alright? And we’ll love you for it.”
He further described Harry’s recent bombshell memoir, “Spare” as “very spiteful to family and friends”.
Lydon isn’t the only celebrity to rail against the royals in recent days.
High-profile British socialite Lizzie Cundy, who was once a friend of Markle’s, slammed her ex-pal as “selfish” for bowing out of attending King Charles III’s upcoming coronation.
