The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) “does not have the funds” to aid hurricane victims after spending $640 million on helping illegals Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced.

His announcement set off outrage Wednesday as citizens suffer the damage wrought by Hurricane Helene with zero help by the federal government.

Mayorkas states: “We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have. We do not have the funds. FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season and what — what is imminent.”

Observers noticed that the Department of Homeland Security allocated $640.9 million to FEMA to help and aid illegal immigrants residing in the country, reports the New York Post.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott had this to say about the situation: “This is easy. Mayorkas and FEMA — immediately stop spending money on illegal immigration resettlement and redirect those funds to areas hit by the hurricane. Put Americans first.”

FEMA said this via their website: Funding is intended to support CBP (U.S. Customs and Border Protection) in the safe, orderly and humane release of noncitizen migrants from short-term holding facilities” backing up their expenditures concerning the migrant crisis.

FEMA’s budget increased greatly since the 2023 fiscal year as more than $1 billion has been spent on non-citizens over the past two years, according to Newsweek.

Hurricane victims did receive $750 earlier this week from a DHS allocation of $780 million through the FEMA Shelter And Service Program and the FEMA Emergency Food And Shelter Program, but are expected not receive any further money from the federal government. This $4 million infusion was viewed as ‘paltry’ by many victims still suffering the wrath of Hurricane Helene. At least 202 people were killed throughout the hurricane’s path from Florida to North Carolina, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday.

Biden addressed the nation Wednesday saying, “It’s going to cost billions of dollars to deal with this storm and all the communities affected. And Congress has an obligation to ensure the states have the resources they need.”

Outrage ensued over his comments among congressional Republicans.

“FEMA spending over a billion dollars on illegals while they leave Americans stranded and without help is treasonous. U.S. citizens are dying. Pray for our country folks,” Rep. Tim Burchett posted on X.

“The Biden-Harris FEMA spent over $1 BILLION on funding illegal aliens. America LAST,” Rep. Eli Crane added.

Donald Trump’s advisor Tim Murtaugh wrote Thursday, “Connect the dots, if you can yet DHS says FEMA might not have enough cash to help people through hurricane season. But in 2 years of a new Biden-Harris program, they’ve spent $1 BILLION on housing and other services for migrants.”

Jaclyn Rothenberg, a spokesperson for FEMA assured the nation that the agency had enough emergency funds for immediate recovery efforts for those affected by Hurricane Helene, reports Newsweek.

“As FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell has said, she has the full authority to spend against the President’s budget, but we’re not out of hurricane season yet so we need to keep a close eye on it,” Rothenberg said. “We may need to go back into immediate needs funding and we will be watching it closely.”

Despite their efforts, many are outraged that the government would choose to help non-citizens over Americans.
