Mauricio Garcia, the lone gunman who fired nearly 40 rounds with an AR-15-style rifle in front of an H&M store at Allen Premium Outlets mall on Saturday afternoon, recorded a strange voicemail message before initiating a shooting rampage.

Some suggest the message indicates mental health issues prompted the shooting — others point to the shooter’s reported gang affiliations.

Garcia injured seven and killed eight in the apparently random spray of bullets. An off-duty police officer, who happened to be shopping at the mall at the time, used lethal force to stop the shooter.

In the odd voicemail message, Garcia indicated he had financial trouble, but that female callers should know he has “plenty of money.” Fox News Digital obtained the shooter’s phone records

A transcript of the recording notes: “Hi, this is Mauricio. If you’re the phone company, I sent you the money, or if you’re my parents, please send money.”

The phone message adds: “If you are my financial aid institution, you didn’t lend me enough money; if you are a friend, you owe me money. And if you are a female, don’t worry; I have plenty of money.”

According to ABC, the U.S. Army discharged Garcia in 2008 “due to mental health concerns.”

Local law enforcement officials are exploring the possibility the shooting was an act of domestic terrorism. Federal authorities are reviewing Garcia’s social media accounts to determine the extent of his reported white supremacist views and neo-Nazi beliefs.

Garcia wore tactical gear during the attack, including a patch reading “RWDS,” an acronym for “Right Wing Death Squad” — a phrase associated with several white supremacy groups.

Several outlets reported that Garcia had no criminal history. However, Twitter users have noted that police previously booked Garcia on at least one occasion and suggested he was a known gang member.

Garcia shared a home with his parents but recently was staying at a hotel near the mall.
