Police report that the body of an outstanding elementary teacher in Texas was found in her backyard just before 10 p.m. last Saturday.
According to the New York Post, officers arrived at Wendy Duan’s home in the 1100 block of Oxford Mills Lane in Sugar Land, a suburb of Houston, after receiving reports of multiple shots fired. Police responded quickly but found Duan dead from gunshot wounds in her backyard.
Police suspect Duan was a victim of domestic violence.
In December 2021, Wendy Duan, 28, was named English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher of the Year, according to a post on her Facebook page.
KHOU 11 reported that Duan served as an assistant elementary teacher for Alief ISD for the last five years.
Police report they have identified a male as a prime suspect, but as of Monday morning, the man was not yet in custody. Officers declined to release additional information at this time.
The ISD school district posted: “We are deeply saddened to learn about the tragic passing of Alief ISD employee Wendy Duan. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.”
