Three men have been arrested for the alleged rape of a firefighting colleague’s sister in July at an Albuquerque, N.M., condominium complex, according to a report from KRQE.
Two of the charged individuals are affiliated with the Albuquerque Fire Rescue; the other recently retired from the department, according to the report.
The alleged victim attended a golfing event Saturday, July 15, with two of the accused, Angel Portillo, 32, and Anthony Martin, 44.
The three later went to the swimming area of Martin’s complex at 601 Menaul Boulevard, where they consumed alcohol. Aden Heyman, 46, joined them at this location, the report noted.
The four firefighters moved to Martin’s residence where the three men are alleged to have forcibly raped the female firefighter who escaped by climbing out a bathroom window, the report added.
One of the men searched online to determine “How long does DNA stay in vagina?” according to a report from the New York Post.
Another resident reportedly discovered her and contacted police.
Albuquerque police confirmed all three men face charges of criminal sexual penetration in the second degree, according to the report.
Portillo and Heyman are currently on administrative leave, the report noted, adding Martin retired from his firefighter role.
“We were made aware of APD’s criminal investigation in July and took immediate steps to launch an internal investigation to determine if the employees violated AFR policies,” Fire Chief Emily Jaramillo said in a statement.
“The three employees were immediately placed on administrative leave,” the statement continued. The allegations were alarming, and we determined a thorough investigation was necessary to determine the facts. We are fully cooperating with APD investigators and treat these allegations seriously. Now that criminal charges have been filed in court, we will respect the judicial process and refrain from commenting on details of the case.”
The arrested men are being detained at the Metro Detention Center, according to the report.
