Trump Blasts Supreme Court After Missouri Midterm Map Ruling

President Donald Trump sharply criticized the U.S. Supreme Court on Sunday after the justices blocked Missouri from using a Republican-backed congressional map in the upcoming midterm elections.

The decision means Missouri will use its 2022 congressional districts in the Nov. 3 general election rather than the newer 2025 map that Republicans had hoped would help them gain an additional House seat.

“The Supreme Court of the United States will just not let Missouri have an Election Victory,” Trump wrote in a social media post.

Trump accused the high court of repeatedly overruling judges who had sided with supporters of the newer map.

“They continuously, three times now, overrule Judges who came to the correct decisions,” Trump wrote.

The president also thanked Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe and supporters of the 2025 map for continuing to fight over the redistricting dispute.

“Thank you to the Governor, and all of the Great People of Missouri, who are fighting so hard for Fairness and Election Security,” Trump said.

Trump also pointed to his own electoral success in Missouri, noting that he carried the state in each of his three presidential campaigns.

“I won Missouri BIG, all three times, and I couldn’t be more proud of doing so,” he wrote.

The Supreme Court issued its latest order Friday without any noted dissents.

The justices blocked a federal appeals court ruling that would have required Missouri to use the 2025 congressional map in the general election.

The Supreme Court said the 2022 map remained the controlling map under Missouri law because the state’s highest court had ruled that the 2025 plan never took effect and would not become law unless voters approved it in a referendum.

The justices also pointed to the timing of the election.

Absentee, military and overseas ballots using the 2022 map had already been printed and mailed by the time the dispute returned to the Supreme Court.

The court warned that forcing another map change at that stage “would usher in electoral chaos.”

Missouri Republicans approved the 2025 map during a special legislative session.

Kehoe signed the plan in September 2025.

The map substantially reconfigured several congressional districts, including the Kansas City-area 5th District represented by Democrat Emanuel Cleaver.

Republicans currently control six of Missouri’s eight U.S. House seats.

The 2025 map was designed in part to make the 5th District more favorable to Republicans and potentially give the party a seventh seat, per Trending Politics.

A group called People Not Politicians later gathered signatures seeking to put the new map before Missouri voters in a referendum.

Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins initially declined to certify the petition.

The state’s August primary elections were therefore conducted using the 2025 districts.

But the Missouri Supreme Court unanimously ruled on Sept. 3 that the referendum petition was legal, sufficient and timely.

The state court concluded that the 2025 map “is not the law and has never been the law” unless and until Missouri voters approve it.

That ruling triggered a series of conflicting decisions in federal court.

A federal district judge later ordered the state to use the newer map, but the U.S. Supreme Court temporarily blocked that order.

The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals then ruled that using one map for the August primary and another for the November general election would violate the Constitution.

The appeals court directed Missouri to use the 2025 map but paused its ruling to allow time for another Supreme Court appeal.

The Supreme Court ultimately rejected that approach Friday.

Its order instructed lower federal courts not to prohibit Missouri from using the 2022 map and not to require the state to use the 2025 districts.

Missouri voters will now cast their congressional ballots under the older map in November.

They will also vote separately on whether to approve the 2025 redistricting plan for future use.

Kehoe said Missouri would comply with the Supreme Court’s order.

Trump, however, made clear Sunday that he strongly disagreed with the outcome, turning the long-running Missouri redistricting fight into his latest public clash with the nation’s highest court.
