The fifth hearing by the House J6 Select Committee focused on alleged plans by former President Donald Trump to replace then-acting Attorney General Jeff Rosen. The former president reportedly wanted to appoint the Justice Department’s Environmental Director, Jeffrey Clark, to head the DOJ.

Thursday’s J6 hearing included testimony from Jeffrey Rosen, who was briefly acting attorney general after William Barr resigned near the end of Trump’s term. Rosen and two of his deputies described how Trump told them in December 2020 that he planned to replace Rosen and have Clark lead the Justice Department.

“This is nothing less than the Justice Department meddling in a presidential election,” Rosen deputy Richard Donoghue said Thursday.

The 45th president wasted little time before responding with a post to his Truth account. He reshared a June 9, 2021, letter from William McSwain, the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

“To the Unselect Committee — Have you seen this letter?” asked Trump in his post. “Why wouldn’t the Justice Department act?”

McSwain alleged in his letter that former Attorney General William Barr swatted down his plans to investigate claims of voter fraud and election irregularities.

“On Election Day and afterwards, our Office received various allegations of voter fraud and election irregularities,” McSwain wrote Trump. He added that the Keystone State’s governor, Commonwealth Secretary and the state Supreme Court did not follow the law during the 2020 election.

“As part of my responsibilities as U.S. Attorney, I wanted to be transparent with the public and, of course, investigate fully any allegations,” said McSwain. “Attorney General Barr, however, instructed me not to make any public statements or put out any press releases regarding possible election irregularities.”

The former U.S. Attorney said Barr further ordered him to pass on any voter fraud allegations to state Attorney General Josh Shapiro for investigation. McSwain noted in his letter that Shapiro had declared Trump could not win the election in the days before the election.

Shapiro is the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania governor in November’s midterm election.
