Fox News interviewed Florida’s governor twice since July 22 — two times more than former President Donald Trump in the last 100 days.
As each day’s sun sets on Mar-a-Lago’s lush lawns, the cacophony of crickets chirping is not disturbed by phone calls from fickle Fox friends.
When the former president addressed conservatives in Washington last week, the network did not air his speech live. It showed a few clips of him speaking, afterwards. It did, however, broadcast live former Vice President Mike Pence’s 17-minute speech the same day, according to a New York Times report.
Trump was rallying supporters in Arizona July 22, hinting of running for reelection in 2024. Fox News did not televise the event, which is how they reportedly handled nearly all of his rallies this year. Instead of showing the Arizona Trump rally, the network broadcast Laura Ingraham interviewing Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla.
DeSantis was later interviewed by Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
The 45th president has reportedly complained to aides that even longtime friends, like Fox News host Sean Hannity, do not seem to be showing him much love anymore.
Trump conducted an April 13 telephone interview with Hannity where he listed a number of problems facing the country. He declared they would never have happened “had we won this election, which we did.”
Since then? Crickets.
The distance between the former president and the network he is synonymous with reportedly reflects orders from on high within Fox.
The network’s coverage of Trump comes from the highest levels of the company, according to the Times report. The unnamed sources cited in the report noted recent blistering editorials in the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal about Trump’s conduct during the Capitol riot.
Additionally, distancing from Trump reportedly addresses concerns expressed by Republican Party leaders about possible political damage if Trump runs again.
Network executives said if Trump announce his candidacy for 2024 or gets indicted, he would obviously receive more Fox News coverage. The only problem with that is Trump does not tolerate disrespect or disloyalty, so a second Trump term could see a different conservative network become the new Trump TV.
