Donald Trump Jr. claims Fox News is seeking to silence Tucker Carlson and is threatening to retaliate against any who support him. Carlson was the host of Fox News’ No. 1 show until April 24 when network executives made the surprise announcement to fire the news anchor — effective immediately. His last broadcast was on April 21.
Many have sided with Carlson and criticized Fox for the unexpected termination. Viewership in the prime time slot at Fox is down 50% since Carlson’s departure.
RTM previously reported that Megyn Kelly, a former Fox News host, claimed that Fox had launched a smear campaign against Tucker in an attempt to stop viewers from leaving and diminish Carlson’s chances of being picked up by a rival news platform.
Carlson is reportedly mulling over several big-platform offers, which some say has infuriated Fox News executives.
In a Wednesday tweet, Donald Trump Jr. noted that sources at Fox News warned him to “expect retaliation” if he continued to express support for Tucker Carlson.
In a recent podcast, Trump noted a negative shift at Fox, saying he had observed “censorship happening, even in conservative mainstream media.”
Trump added that he had “heard from a few of my friends at Fox News that the leftist executives running things there are pissed at me for calling them out over firing Tucker and to ‘expect retaliation.'”
“A lot of good people still work at Fox, but their RINO leadership is at war with conservatives!”
The former president and Trump Jr. have supported Carlson since his dismissal. Trump Jr. tweeted:
“15 million views on the video & 45 on the tweet. Legacy media will do everything in its power to make sure Tucker has no voice through 2024… Just watch… also note who has his back & who doesn’t!!! A silenced Tucker is a uniparty/warmonger/deep-state/globalists dream come true.”
Megyn Kelly and Trump Jr. also accused Fox News of leaking out-of-context video clips and text messages to The New York Times to smear Carlson and justify his firing. Fox denies responsibility for the leak.
On Monday, Trump Jr. claimed that Fox News’ moves to the left contributed to the dismissal of Fox host Dan Bongino and his own absence as a guest contributor.
Trump Jr. said: “You saw what Fox did to Tucker Carlson last week, and the week before that, it was Dan Bongino, and, you know, the people who would actually question some of that narrative like: Is it a brilliant plan to send $130 billion to Ukraine, one of the most corrupt nations in the world?”
Trump Jr. claimed he typically appeared on Fox programs “three, four, five, six, ten times a week. I haven’t been on in nine months. Not a call, not an invite, not anything.”
The former president’s son added, “So I understand what it appears like they’re trying to do to the America First movement. You know, Tucker was another one of those voices.”
Many have noted that current happenings seem to correlate with a recent report in Rolling Stone, stating that Fox executives had an “oppo file” of negative information on Carlson and were prepared to use it to silence Carlson and his supporters.
