President Donald Trump is scheduled to make an announcement from the Oval Office this afternoon, with the White House offering no advance details about what the president plans to reveal.
Trump is expected to speak at 2 p.m. Eastern Time today, Monday, Sept. 28, according to the White House daily guidance and press schedule.
The event is listed simply as “THE PRESIDENT makes an Announcement” and will be open to the White House press pool.
No subject matter was included in the official schedule, leaving the nature of Trump’s announcement unclear as of Monday morning.
The president has a busy day planned before the Oval Office appearance.
Trump is scheduled to participate in executive time at 8 a.m., followed by several policy meetings beginning later in the morning.
According to the White House schedule, policy meetings are set for 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m.
The announcement will then take place at 2 p.m.
Trump is also scheduled to participate in a print interview at 3:30 p.m., following the Oval Office event.
The White House has not indicated whether the announcement is connected to any of the policy meetings taking place earlier in the day.
Trump returned to Washington Sunday night after attending the Presidents Cup in Medinah, Illinois.
The president briefly spoke with reporters after returning and described the day as “tremendous,” while congratulating the U.S. golf team following its victory.
Trump also indicated Sunday that he had a late-night dinner scheduled with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.
“So that’s a long day, right?!” Trump said while discussing his schedule.
The meeting came during an active period for the administration on technology and artificial intelligence policy.
Trump has also spent recent days meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and American technology executives.
Xi recently concluded a state visit to Washington, where he met with Trump and attended a White House state dinner.
The White House described Trump’s meetings with Xi as part of an effort to advance the relationship between the United States and China, with trade and technology among the issues under discussion.
There is currently no public indication, however, that today’s announcement is connected to China, artificial intelligence or Trump’s meeting with Amodei.
The White House has previously used Oval Office events to unveil major policy initiatives and administration actions.
Officials have also sometimes withheld the subject of presidential announcements until shortly before the event begins.
As of Monday morning, the White House’s public presidential actions page did not show a newly released executive order explaining what Trump intends to announce, Trending Politics reported.
That means the subject is expected to remain unknown until additional information is released or Trump begins speaking.
Members of the White House press pool are expected to be present for the announcement.
The event is also expected to be available through official White House coverage.
Trump’s announcement comes after several days dominated by foreign policy, technology issues and meetings with business and international leaders.
The president is also scheduled to headline a separate “Golden Age” event on Tuesday featuring government officials and prominent technology executives.
For now, attention turns to the Oval Office, where Trump is expected to reveal the subject of his latest announcement at 2 p.m. Eastern Time today.
