Former President Donald Trump has not announced who will serve as his running mate in the 2024 presidential election. He has ruled out former running mate Mike Pence and potential challenger Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and according to an article on the 1945 website, three women are on Trump’s shortlist.
On the heels of a successful CNN-hosted town hall event, Trump is viewed by most as the GOP frontrunner. According to the 1945 website, three women are maneuvering to be on the ticket with Trump in 2024: Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem.
The campaign website 1945 provided a brief profile of each potential running mate, describing Lake as a “former news anchor in Arizona who narrowly lost to Democrat Katie Hobbs in the Arizona gubernatorial election.” Lake has contended election fraud and is fighting the matter in court.
Lake’s profile on the site also included that “Lake is a unique creature, spewing the hard right rhetoric that MAGA Nation finds so endearing, while doing so with the glitz and polish of a seasoned TV reporter.”
It described Greene as a “far-right Republican who has recently begun to gain more mainstream acceptance in the party.”
Greene has been a staunch supporter of Trump. It noted that Greene might be of interest to the former president who lost Georgia in 2020, as she may be able to help swing the “newly-in-play Georgia” from blue to red.
Noem is a poised and powerful governor who has long expressed support for Trump and championed conservative values. Maintaining a low-key profile, when a CNN “State of the Union” host asked Noem if she would be Trump’s running mate, she replied, “I would be shocked if he asked.”
Trump campaign officials told The Associated Press that announcing a running mate will not likely occur until after the primaries are over.
Trump himself has avoided putting anyone in the spotlight this early in the election cycle, telling Newsmax, “I’ve watched this for a long time. There’s never been a vice president that’s done anything for the election. In other words, they vote for the one person.”
The Western Journal noted that Vice President Kamala Harris will remain on the ticket with President Joe Biden and that “it seems very likely that Trump’s ticket would include … one of the three listed above.
