Former President Donald Trump faced a tumultuous day in the courtroom during his ongoing civil trial in New York City, reportedly culminating in a dramatic exit by the former president and leaving many in the courtroom in a state of shock.
“TRUMP IMMEDIATELY GETS UP AND STORMS OUT OF THE COURTROOM WITH SECRET SERVICE AGENTS CHASING AFTER HIM….COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED AND SURPRISING TO HIS OWN ATTORNEYS …COURTROOM GASPED,” Shawn Reynolds reported via X on Wednesday.
Judge Arthur Engoron, overseeing the trial, imposed a fine of $10,000 on Trump for violating a gag order. This order prohibited him from discussing the case or any individual associated with it. The fine was levied after Trump was asked to clarify whom he was referencing when he commented to reporters that Engoron is “a very partisan judge with a person who’s very partisan sitting alongside him, perhaps even much more partisan than he is.” Trump clarified that he was referring to Michael Cohen, a witness testifying for New York Attorney General Letitia James. However, Engoron believed the comment might have been aimed at his law clerk, Allison Greenfield, a figure Trump’s legal team has previously expressed concerns about.
Engoron further inquired if Trump had ever labeled his law clerk as partisan. Trump responded, “maybe” and added that he found the judge to be “very biased.” Unconvinced by Trump’s testimony, Engoron proceeded to issue the fine.
A mere 45 minutes after this incident, Trump reportedly made his abrupt departure from the courtroom. This sudden move came after Engoron rejected a motion presented by Trump’s lawyers. Witnesses reported that Trump’s legal team appeared taken aback by his unexpected exit. As he was leaving, Trump reportedly remarked, “The witness just admitted that we won the trial and the judge should end this trial immediately. Thank you,” Trump said.
Earlier, on October 20, Engoron had fined Trump $5,000 and even warned him of potential jail time. This was in response to Trump’s failure to remove a post from Truth Social in which he criticized Greenfield. Trump had insinuated a romantic relationship between Greenfield and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, sharing a photograph of the two and calling Greenfield “Schumer’s girlfriend.”
