Former President Donald Trump vigorously refuted anonymous Defense Department officials claiming Chinese balloons also overflew the U.S. during his administration. The 45th president opined the administration is spreading disinformation to take the heat off President Biden for allowing China’s balloon to float coast to coast.
“The Chinese Balloon situation is a disgrace, just like the Afghanistan horror show, and everything else surrounding the grossly incompetent Biden Administration,” the former president said in a Sunday Truth post. “They are only good at cheating in elections, and disinformation — and now they are putting out that a Balloon was put up by China during the Trump Administration, in order to take the ‘heat’ off the slow moving Biden fools. China had too much respect for ‘TRUMP’ for this to have happened, and it NEVER did. JUST FAKE DISINFORMATION!”
In a Friday Truth post, Trump counseled President Biden to shoot the balloon down. U.S. Defense Department officials claim they were aware of it last Wednesday. Thursday, the Chinese spy balloon was visible to people in Montana looking up in the sky, even though it flew at an altitude of 60,000 feet.
A U.S. military jet downed the balloon with a missile Saturday when it was off South Carolina’s coast.
Mark Esper, who was Trump’s secretary of defense, denied balloons flew over the United States under the Trump administration.
“I don’t ever recall somebody coming into my office or reading anything that the Chinese had a surveillance balloon above the United States,” he stated Friday during a “CNN This Morning” interview.
“I would remember that for sure.”
Trump’s U.S. national security adviser, John Bolton, also declared there were no instances of any spy balloons entering U.S. airspace while Trump was in office. Bolton, whom some political analysts believe may challenge Trump for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, was also a Bush administration official. He went further than Esper by adding he never heard of anything like this happening before, according to a report from The Epoch Times.
Bolton challenged the Biden administration to inform Congress of any specific examples they have knowledge of about spy balloons in previous administrations. “I can say with 100 percent certainty not during my tenure,” Bolton said.
“It’s not true. I can refute it,” former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe also said. “The American people can refute it for themselves.”
“Do you remember during the Trump administration, when photographers on the ground and commercial airline pilots were talking about a spy balloon over the United States that people could look up and see, even with the naked eye, and that a media that hated Donald Trump wasn’t reporting?”
