Former President Donald Trump has had a tumultuous relationship with journalist Megyn Kelly, but announced on Thursday that he agrees with her assessment that he is “unbeatable” if he runs for President in 2024.
Megyn’s recent comments occurred during an interview with BlazeTV Host Dave Rubin.
During the interview on “The Rubin Report,” Kelly shared that she did not believe anyone could beat Trump in a battle for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024.
When Rubin pressed Kelly on the likelihood of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a rising star in the GOP, winning the nomination, Kelly responded:
“The only way DeSantis is going to become the Republican nominee is if Trump chooses not to run and endorses him or dies.”
Kelly added that though Trump’s “Make America Great Again” supporters “like DeSantis,” most believe Trump is “entitled” to another shot.
Presidential bid announcements are expected after the midterms — less than two weeks away. Though neither Trump nor DeSantis has officially declared their intent to run in 2024, Trump teasing at a rally last weekend said: “I will probably have to do it again.”
DeSantis has said he is currently focused on his reelection campaign and helping GOP Senate and House candidates across the country. However, he seems to be keeping his options open as, during an interview this week, he dodged questions about whether he’d commit to serving another full four-year term as Florida governor.
The relationship between Trump and DeSantis seems to have soured as, in recent months, the governor has captured many headlines and polls that show him to be “among America’s most popular governors.”
This week, Trump sharply criticized DeSantis for supporting Colorado Republican Senate Candidate Joe O’Dea.
During an Oct. 16 interview on CNN, O’Dea called the Jan. 6 Capitol protest a “black eye” for the country and promised to oppose attempts by Trump to secure the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
“I don’t think Donald Trump should run again,” O’Dea said. “I’m going to actively campaign against Donald Trump and make sure that we have got four or five really great Republicans right now.”
Trump responded to DeSantis’ endorsement of O’Dea on Monday, posting on Truth Social, “BIG MISTAKE!”
The Trump-Kelly feud began in 2015. The then-Fox News anchor sparred with Trump during the first Republican presidential primary debate. Kelly inferred Trump demeaned females and cited his depictions of women as “fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals.”
Afterward, in an interview with CNN, Trump complained of being asked “ridiculous questions” and said of Kelly, “You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes.”
Trump requested an apology. Kelly continued to express her doubts regarding Trump’s fitness for the office and called the months leading up to the 2016 election a “scary” time.
Most of the tension seems to be behind them now as Kelly predicts Trump is a shoo-in for the GOP nomination should he decide to run in 2024.
