As tensions flare in the Middle East and international focus turns to escalating conflict zones, President Donald Trump has hinted at a groundbreaking development set to be revealed in the coming days.
Without disclosing specifics, Trump described the upcoming announcement as “one of the most important” in recent history, fueling speculation across diplomatic and media circles.
The president made the statement during a high-profile meeting in the Oval Office with newly installed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
“We’re going to have a very, very big announcement to make, like as big as it gets,” Trump said, according to Fox News. “And I won’t tell you on what… but it’s very positive.”
Trump suggested the revelation could come Thursday, Friday or early next week—just before his diplomatic visit to the Middle East.
The administration’s itinerary includes stops in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
Though Trump refrained from linking the announcement directly to the Israel-Hamas conflict, his upcoming presence in the region has fueled widespread speculation that the development could relate to a ceasefire, hostage negotiations or a broader peace agreement.
Trump’s comments were met with curiosity and anticipation.
“I’m on the edge of my seat,” Carney quipped, drawing laughs from the press pool before thanking Trump for his hospitality and leadership.
In the same meeting, Trump announced that the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen had agreed to halt their attacks on international shipping lanes.
This development follows weeks of sustained U.S. airstrikes launched to protect maritime traffic since March 15. The president indicated that, in response, the U.S. would scale back its military actions in the region.
The Houthis recently claimed responsibility for a missile strike that landed near Tel Aviv’s main international airport, an act that intensified already high tensions in the region.
Trump’s disclosure about a potential truce was seen as a promising sign of de-escalation.
Meanwhile, in Israel, the government voted to expand military operations in Gaza, Fox News reports.
A senior defense official there told Reuters that Trump’s visit presented a rare “window of opportunity” for securing the release of hostages still held by Hamas following the group’s brutal October 7, 2023, attacks.
That assault left thousands dead and sparked the current war.
“If there is no hostage deal, Operation ‘Gideon Chariots’ will begin with great intensity and will not stop until all its goals are achieved,” the Israeli official warned, suggesting major military action could be imminent if diplomacy fails.
Though Trump remained vague, he made clear that the forthcoming announcement was not necessarily related to trade matters.
“We’re going to have a great announcement… and I don’t want you to think it’s necessarily on trade,” he told reporters after briefly discussing U.S. economic relations with Canada.
Trump also commented on the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA), calling it a “very positive step” and “transitional” improvement over NAFTA, which he once again labeled “the worst trade deal in the history of our country—probably in the history of the world.”
As the clock ticks down to Trump’s overseas trip, speculation grows about the nature of the anticipated announcement—one that could reshape foreign policy or global alliances in a matter of days.
