Barron Trump is expected to make a rare public appearance Sunday when he joins President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the FIFA World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, according to people familiar with the family’s plans.
The president’s youngest son, who has largely remained out of the public spotlight during his father’s second term, is expected to attend the championship match between Spain and Argentina alongside several members of the Trump family.
Eric Trump and Lara Trump are also expected to attend the event, according to reports.
Barron, 20, has made only a handful of public appearances since President Trump returned to the White House in January 2025.
Among those appearances were the presidential inauguration, the 2026 State of the Union address and a June event on the White House South Lawn celebrating America’s 250th anniversary that featured a UFC card.
Video shared from the UFC event showed Barron greeting guests, including former soccer star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Barron, who attends New York University, is rarely seen at the White House while pursuing his studies.
People familiar with the family told the Daily Mail that Barron could begin appearing more frequently at public events alongside the president.
One person who has attended several events with the Trump family said Barron has become increasingly comfortable in public settings and is developing a style similar to his father’s.
Another person close to the family described Barron as an ordinary college student despite growing up in a political family.
“He loves sports just like any other guy,” the person said, adding that while Barron has largely stayed out of politics, “you never know.”
Barron has long been known as a soccer fan.
During last month’s NATO summit, President Trump reportedly told Norway’s prime minister that Barron introduced him to Norwegian soccer star Erling Haaland.
Trump has also publicly discussed Barron’s admiration for Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
When Ronaldo visited the White House in 2025, Trump introduced the soccer star to his son, describing Barron as “a big fan.”
Barron previously played youth soccer and was listed on D.C. United’s academy roster during his childhood.
In a 2019 interview, Trump said his son enjoyed playing soccer but expressed reservations about allowing him to play American football because of concerns about injuries.
At nearly 6 feet 9 inches tall, Barron’s height has also been the subject of public comments by the president, who joked last year during a meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino that his son was “on the tall side for soccer.”
President Trump is expected to attend Sunday’s World Cup final and participate in the postgame trophy presentation alongside Infantino.
The championship match comes at the conclusion of a tournament that has drawn significant international attention and featured several off-field political storylines in addition to the competition on the field.
While Barron Trump has generally avoided public life compared with other members of the Trump family, Sunday’s appearance would mark one of his highest-profile public events since his father began his second term in office and could signal a more visible role at future public functions.
