Two people have been arrested in Savannah, Georgia, following a violent assault captured on video in the city’s downtown area, according to the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials identified the suspects as 24-year-old Elijawan Wilson and 25-year-old Tania Phillips.
Wilson was charged with aggravated assault and battery in connection with the attack on West Congress Street in the City Market district.
Phillips was also charged with battery after investigators said she was seen participating in the assault, according to WTOC.
Investigators said video evidence shows multiple black individuals taking part in a group attack on a single white male victim.
The footage depicts the victim being punched repeatedly, kicked, and stomped while on the ground before being dragged along the pavement.
Officials said the victim lost consciousness during the assault and was later transported to a hospital for treatment, according to WSAV.
Law enforcement officials said the assault is part of a broader investigation into multiple violent encounters reported in the downtown area over a short period.
Detectives are reviewing several videos recorded on different days, including clips that have circulated on social media showing separate altercations involving groups of individuals in the same district.
Sheriff Richard Coleman said investigators are actively working through extensive video evidence, witness statements, and digital submissions to establish the full timeline of events and identify all individuals involved.
He said the case remains open and additional arrests are possible as new evidence is processed and leads are developed.
Authorities said surveillance footage and publicly submitted video have played a key role in advancing the investigation.
Detectives are comparing multiple recordings to determine participant roles and to confirm identities of those seen in the assaults.
Wilson has a prior arrest history that includes multiple violent charges, according to local reporting cited by law enforcement.
Officials said that background is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation into the current charges.
Coleman said he met with the victim, who was hospitalized following the assault and described as seriously injured. Investigators continue to monitor the victim’s condition as part of the ongoing case file.
He added that investigators are committed to identifying everyone involved in the incident and holding all participants accountable as the case progresses.
Coleman said detectives are continuing to pursue leads and review additional footage as it becomes available.
“We’re going to get your behinds and we’re going to put you in the jailhouse where you belong,” Coleman said during a public briefing, emphasizing enforcement efforts tied to the investigation.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains ongoing and active, with additional updates expected as law enforcement continues to process video evidence, verify identities, and gather further information from witnesses and the public.
Officials said the case is expected to develop as investigators complete their review of all available material.
The violent attack comes as what many social media users describe as an increased assault on white individuals.
In the past few months, more videos have circulated online depicting similar instances where white individuals are being attacked by black individuals, a trend that many conservatives say is being widely ignored by the mainstream media.
Authorities said this investigation remains active and additional arrests are possible as detectives continue reviewing footage and identifying others involved in the incident.
