In what some fear is becoming a shocking trend, a third female media host had an on-air medical incident in as many months, frightening viewers and co-workers as they collapsed during on-air reports.
Jessica Robb of CTV Edmonton slurred her speech and lost her balance while reporting on Jan. 10.
Los Angeles meteorologist, Alissa Carlson Schwartz of KCAL-TV, collapsed on Mar. 18 as she shared a weather report.
Colombian TV Host Elianis Garrido fainted during a live broadcast last Thursday.
Garrido, 35, is a popular co-host of the “Lo Sé Todo” (“I Know Everything”) show. She has 6.2 million followers on Instagram and 673,000 on Facebook.
During the broadcast, Garrido is seen suddenly covering her face with her hands and falling out of her chair to the floor. The stage camera shows a stunned co-host Ariel Osoria rushing to her aid and calling for a commercial break.
Many crew members quickly responded to lend assistance. Garrido was rushed to a hospital while the show continued. Osorio later told viewers that Garrido had suffered “respiratory problems.”
A local (Colombian) Twitter post shows what happened.
Osorio later updated fans, saying that Garrido was “doing fine” at a local hospital.
“She will call you soon; we will tell you what is happening with Eli,” he said.
Presenter María Fernanda Romero reported that Garrido had been “having coughing spells” and had not felt “well for several days due to changes in the climate.”
Garrido has not personally updated her fans but is reportedly doing well and expected to fully recover.
