Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband has been accused of physically assaulting an ex-girlfriend, according to a new report.
Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff is accused of slapping a former girlfriend in May 2012, three sources claim.
The alleged incident occurred while the couple was attending an event at the Cannes Film Festival in France. Three friends of the woman, who is a successful New York attorney, claimed that Emhoff hit her so hard in the face that she turned around while standing in a valet line.
The woman contacted one of her friends right away while crying in her cab and recounted the details of the alleged assault, one of the sources told the Daily Mail.
A second friend of the unidentified woman told the outlet that the couple had been dating for three months at the time and disclosed about other violence she had suffered at the hands of Emhoff.
A third friend informed the outlet that the woman had initially mentioned in 2014 that she had dated Emhoff. In 2018, she shared the full account of his alleged abuse, around the time when then-Senator Kamala Harris made headlines for questioning Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh during a Senate hearing on s*xual assault allegations.
One of the woman’s friends, a top New York businessman, said that he received a call from her during the night in question.
“It was hard to hear her because she was sobbing,” he said. “She told me she was with a guy and he hit her. It was very clear what she was telling me. She said she was with a guy, her date, she was at the Cannes Film Festival, and he hit her. She was in the car with the guy at the time.”
‘I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t know whether to call the French police. I couldn’t get a hold of her after calling back.”
He said that as the years have gone by, he remembers that night vividly.
“It was something like 3am,” he continued. “They were trying to get out of there and they both had been drinking. There was a gigantic line for taxis.”
‘[She] went up to one of the valet guys, offered him 100 Euros or whatever, to get to the head of the line. She told me she put her hand on his shoulder. Doug apparently thought that she was flirting, and came over and slapped her in the face.”
The friends shared photos of Emhoff and the woman with the Daily Mail from 2012, along with other documents as proof of their story.
The allegations against Emhoff follow the controversy of him impregnanting his daughter’s nanny and teacher while being married to his first wife.
The three sources revealed that Emhoff confessed to getting Najen Naylor pregnant and told the woman that Naylor accused him of causing her miscarriage, which he assured her were false.
They also allege that he paid Naylor an $80,000 settlement and had her sign a non-disclosure agreement.
The three sources and the woman requested not to be identified due to fears of being retaliated against by Emhoff.
