A now-viral video posted to Instagram shows the impact of New York City’s strict vaccine mandate and proof-of-vaccination requirement to enter public establishments that went into effect Monday.
The video shows a five-year-old boy pushed to tears as police ordered his family out of a restaurant because they could not or would not show their vaccination papers.
The strict new proof-of-vaccination requirement is exiting Mayor Bill de Blasio’s parting gift to a city marked by a surge in violent crime and scandal.
Many say this move is reminiscent of Nazi Germany. The video shows officers approaching a family at a table in a restaurant and demanding they produce documents showing they complied with vaccination orders.
“You don’t have the card?” an officer questions.
“If you don’t have it, then you’ll have to leave,” the officer then coldly tells the family.
Speaking to the boy’s mother, the officer warns he can charge with trespassing those who do not produce papers showing proof of vaccination.
Magnanimously, the officer says: “If you leave voluntarily, there will not be charges pressed against you; otherwise, you will be arrested for trespass. This your only warning.”
Angry and incredulous bystanders took the video and expressed their displeasure with the officer’s actions.
“[You’re] scaring a child—traumatizing a child,” a woman says. “I hope you feel good about yourself…This is disgusting. This is gross.”
Watch:
Mayor de Blasio’s proof-of-vaccination order pertains to everyone 12 years old and above. It requires individuals to show their vaccination card when entering businesses with indoor spaces, including restaurants, gyms, music venues, movie theaters, and other indoor public spaces.
The New York Post reports that the mandate will be tightened to impact all individuals five years old and up as of Wednesday.
Blaze Media reports that “tourists from all around the world” are struggling to navigate the increasingly dystopian New York City landscape, noting that many come from “places that don’t require children to be vaccinated.”
