Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne encountered an awkward moment during the recent Juno Awards ceremony.
The Monday night event in Edmonton, Canada, recognized Lavigne for winning the TikTok Juno Fan Choice Award. The award was Lavigne’s 10th Juno Award and 4th Fan Choice Award.
But as Lavigne presented a song, a topless female protester jumped on the stage and interrupted the performance.
According to a report in The Daily Wire, the protester had “woke phrases written all over her body.”
Lavigne was not impressed and employed expletives in telling the woman to leave the stage. After a few long seconds, security stepped in and removed the protester.
Two of the phrases written on the topless woman were “save the green belt” and “land back.”
CTV News reported that the phrases are connected to policies adopted by Ontario administrators in November, authorizing the removal of “7,400 acres of protected Greenbelt [forest] and open it up for housing.”
The CVT report noted: “Officials said they expect about 50,000 new homes to be built on the former Greenbelt land with construction to begin by no later than 2025. The move is under investigation by both Ontario’s auditor general and integrity commissioner and has been met with fierce criticism by some.”
