During a recent panel with world leaders from Korea and Japan, President Joe Biden was caught on a hot mic requesting that journalists be asked to leave the premises.

“Politely ask the press to leave,” Biden said, after which the recording abruptly ended.

The event took place at Camp David, where President Biden convened with President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea and Prime Minister Kishida Fumio of Japan.

Their primary agenda revolved around addressing security concerns in the Pacific. The Associated Press highlighted the significance of this meeting. As the televised panel concluded, Biden signaled his desire for the press to exit. Subsequently, he turned, offering a smile to the attendees, as revealed by a White House recording.

The geopolitical landscape is evolving, with the three nations aiming to forge a trilateral relationship. This initiative stems from mounting security apprehensions regarding China’s actions in the region. Yet, the Biden administration found itself in a quandary.

The dilemma revolved around whether to even broach the topic of China during the summit. This hesitation became evident after both The People’s Republic of China and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea voiced their vehement opposition to the meeting.

Because of Biden’s sudden and seemingly unprompted discontinuation of press coverage of the Camp David event, the exact contents of what was discussed thereafter with the two typically hostile East Asian nations remains a mystery. So too is the cause of Biden’s abrupt request, on which the White House has not commented as of writing.
