President Joe Biden kept his lips sealed on Wednesday when a journalist asked him to comment on the recent indictment of Republican Congressman George Santos, claiming that the decision of whether to remove Santos from the lower house of the American legislature belonged to Congress alone.
“Should George Santos be expelled from Congress?” a reporter asked President Biden in White Plains, New York.
“Oh, I — Look, if I comment at all on Santos, you’re all gonna say I’m getting the Justice Department to do things. I’m not commenting on Santos,” the president responded.
“I meant by ‘Congress,’ can he be expelled by lawmakers from Congress?” the reporter continued.
“That’s for Congress to decide,” was the president’s only answer.

Santos was elected as representative for New York’s 3rd Congressional District last year, but public relations problems began to manifest shortly after his successful bid. Last December, The New York Times exposed Santos for numerous fabrications about his life.
Despite claiming membership in the LGBT community, Santos was married to a female from 2013 to 2019. Santos’ claims of Jewish heritage were also scrutinized among other autobiographical details too numerous to recount here.
Santos has also faced legal issues both before and after the 2022 congressional election, which came to a head on Wednesday when he was indicted on charges related to campaign finance fraud, false statements to Congress, money laundering and theft of public funds.
Members of both major political parties have called on Santos to resign from his position, but the lisping Latino has rebuffed these entreaties, even announcing last month his intention to seek another term in 2024. So far, his recent legal tribulations have not swayed Santos’ determination to remain in office.
Santos himself did not reciprocate the president’s mum attitude, and the beleaguered congressman lashed out at President Biden as he addressed reporters outside the Central Islip courthouse following his arrest.
“The reality is it’s a witch hunt,” Santos told the press. “It makes no sense that in four months, four months, five months, I’m indicted. You have Joe Biden’s entire family receiving deposits … from nine family members receiving money from foreign destinations into their bank accounts. It’s been years of exposing a lot of what you here have reported on them. And yet, no investigation is launched into them.”
