President Joe Biden tripped at least once this week while traveling to Poland and Ukraine. The latest incident occurred on Wednesday as he walked up the steps to enter Air Force One on his way home from Poland.
Some Twitter users expressed great concern, raising questions as photos of the president noted an apparent bruise on his forehead.
The latest fall seemed minor. Biden, 80, quickly regained his footing and gave a wave before entering the plane. However, the timing of the fall gives ammunition to those who believe Biden should not run in 2024 due to his age.
Watch:
The New York Post noted that Wednesday’s fall was the third time the president has stumbled while attempting to board Air Force One. During a fall in March 2021, then-White House Deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre blamed the fall on an “ill-timed gust of wind.”
Last June, Biden lost his balance while attempting to stop his bicycle.
President Biden is not the only president known for taking a stumble. President George W. Bush fell and once crashed into a police officer when riding a bicycle in Scotland. President Reagan fell when entering Air Force One, and President Gerald Ford, a noted athlete in his younger years, fell several times, prompting actor and comedian Chevy Chase to tease the good-natured world leader on “Saturday Night Live.”
Still, Republicans will likely use Biden’s verbal and actual stumbles to reinforce the contention that he is too old to effectively carry out the duties of America’s commander in chief.
