Tables were turned on former CNN host Chris Cuomo when he was pressed by presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy about the circumstances leading to his firing.
The exchange occurred on Cuomo’s newer NewsNation cable program on Monday. Cuomo had invited Ramaswamy to be his guest.
In 2021, CNN CEO Jeff Zucker fired Cuomo after it was claimed he assisted his brother, then-Mayor Andrew Cuomo, in strategizing regarding how to mitigate sexual harassment charges and the COVID pandemic.
Chris Cuomo began the discussion by claiming Ramaswamy performed poorly during last week’s GOP debate; he particularly criticized Ramaswamy’s interactions with fellow candidate and debate participant, Nikki Haley.
Cuomo asked: “Why do you keep going at Nikki Haley?”
Ramaswamy was taken aback by the tone and replied: “Chris, I don’t know what you’ve been smoking, man. You and the rest of the mainstream media, it’s laughable. Nikki Haley’s been going after me the whole campaign.”
Ramaswamy’s anger was evident as he shared his perception the “establishment media” was not objective in covering the campaign and were in fact backing “the puppet they want to put up” — Nikki Haley.

The presidential candidate who polls slightly lower than Haley in most polls, believes the former governor of South Carolina and President Donald Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations has received favorable coverage by the press.
Ramaswamy went further and claimed media personalities like Cuomo were “force-feeding lies to the American people for years.”
Cuomo pushed back against the serious charges, suggesting that Ramaswamy himself had put “together a tapestry of conspiracies,” which included allegations that he was backing Nikki Haley for president.
In support of his statement, Cuomo said, “She hasn’t even been on my show!”
