Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar was compelled to flee an event promoting the launch of her new book after a group of climate protestors interrupted the Midwestern politician.
During a launch party of her book The Joy of Politics on Thursday at George Washington University, Klobuchar was rudely interrupted by members of the activist group Climate Defiance, who rushed the stage while chanting “Be a climate leader; live your values.” The group then broke into singing the folk song “Which Side Are You On?” while posing with banners calling for the abolition of fossil fuels.
After apparently realizing that her event had been steamrolled by these activists, Klobuchar silently walked off the stage. The Minnesota senator has not publicly addressed the interruption.
Witnesses attest that the event was not the first interruption of Klobuchar’s Joy of Politics party. Earlier in the event, one individual asked Klobuchar if she would pledge to stop oil drilling in Minnesota, to which the Senator replied accurately that “we don’t have drilling” in the state.
About four minutes subsequently, another activist stood up and interrupted Amy to ask whether she would commit to cosponsoring the Green New Deal. Klobuchar declined to commit to cosponsoring the legislation but emphasized her “very good record” on voting in support of climate change measures, at which point the activists seized the stage.

The climate activists were triumphant as they reveled in their obnoxious demonstration, taking to social media to announce their victory over the Gopher state senator.
“BREAKING: we just made the pro-oil Senator Amy Klobuchar flee the stage at her book launch party. Her book title? The Joy of Politics,” Climate Defiance tweeted on Thursday.
“She refused to call on Biden to stop Line 3. She refused to call on Biden to stop Willow. She has tremendous power and she has refused to do anything with it to address the profound existential crisis we face,” Climate Defiance continued.
The group also foreshadowed more such demonstrations to come, claiming that they were targeting “at least three more oil-loving [Democrats]” in order to shut down their keynote speeches. The group also alluded to “another big update” incoming in the next four days.
