A staffer working for a Democratic congresswoman revealed his skepticism over the congresswoman’s professional background in a candid interview with an undercover journalist, even going so far as to compare his member of Congress to the recently indicted George Santos in a video released on Friday.
In the new footage from Project Veritas, a flamboyant staffer for Democratic Rep. Lauren Underwood from Illinois’s 14th Congressional District is seen questioning the veracity of Underwood’s claims about her career background.
The staffer, identified as Clay Connor Elmore , compares Underwood to disgraced Republican congressman George Santos, who was indicted on charges including fraud, money laundering and false statements to Congress on Wednesday.
“I think it’s so ironic that everyone in my office is like, ‘oh [expletive] George Santos,’ but at least he’s being honest about his corruption.”

The dashiki-wearing staffer later speculates on Underwood’s purported background as a nurse, implying that this feature of his congresswoman’s biography was an opportunistic fabrication.
“Everybody is a liar. Between you and me, I think my member is lying about being a nurse … being a nurse is clearly a good image for her, like caring about healthcare and, like, the middle class health and, like, COVID and [expletive] like that, even though — and, like, she has a degree, and she was a nurse, but I think the Republicans kept getting her like ‘what’s your actual background,’ cause it’s messy.”
When asked by the Project Veritas journalist what distinguished Underwood from Santos, Elmore expressed that his greater affinity for Underwood was based on identitarian reasons.
“The difference between Santos and my member is that I’m willing to compromise a lot of my values for this woman who’s there for other black women, and George Santos, who doesn’t have a lot of black women in his district, he’s there just to flip New York.”
As of this writing, the office of Rep. Underwood has not responded to a request for comment.
