Detransitioner Chloe Cole testified before Congress on the day of her 19th birthday on Thursday, giving her devastating story with “gender-affirming care” and making a heartfelt plea to legislators.
Cole, who underwent a double mastectomy at age 15 after identifying as transgender, expressed regret over her decision and urged for action against gender-affirming treatments and surgeries for minors.
Using the platform given to her by Congress, Cole reflected on her family’s journey through her transition. When Cole first expressed her desire to transition at age 12, her parents sought help from medical professionals. This move, she claimed, put the entire family on a path laden with ideologically motivated coercion.
“The gender specialist I was taken to see told my parents that I needed to be put on puberty blocking drugs right away,” Cole said. “They asked my parents a simple question: would you rather have a dead daughter or a living transgender son? The choice was enough for my parents to let their guard down, and in retrospect I can’t blame them. This is the moment that we all became victims of so-called’ gender affirming care.’”

She went on to describe the body horrors of her medical interventions, lamenting the lasting physiological damage of her transition at such a young age.
Cole candidly expressed the irreversible damage she experienced after undergoing the procedure at a tender age. Her deeper voice, sharper jawline, longer nose, more prominent Adam’s apple, and the unknown factor of her fertility are the result of testosterone injections.
“When I was thirteen, I had my first testosterone injection. It’s caused permanent changes to my body,” she continued. “My voice will forever be deeper, my jaw line sharper, my nose longer, my bone structure permanently masculinized, my Adam’s apple more prominent, my fertility unknown. I look in the mirror sometimes and I feel like a monster.
“After my breasts were taken away from me, the tissue was incinerated,” Cole said. “Before I was able to legally drive, I had a huge part of my future womanhood taken from me. I will never be able to breastfeed. I struggle to look at myself in the mirror at times. I still struggle to this day with sexual dysfunction. And I have massive scars across my chest and the skin grafts that they took of my nipples are weeping fluid today.”
This detransitioner’s childhood was riddled with pain, confusion, and difficulty — an experience she has noticed is shared by thousands of detransitioners she’s met through various networks. Chloe Cole saw her plea to lawmakers as an opportunity to prevent more children from becoming victims of what she calls “barbaric pseudoscience.”
