Former Biden campaign surrogate Kevin Walling and Fox News host Harris Faulkner got into a short spat on Thursday after Walling compared the border crisis to the current disagreements in the House of Representatives over the speakership role.
President Joe Biden is set to visit the southern border for the first time ever, potentially arriving as soon as Sunday, to address the ongoing crisis. Biden plans to visit the El Paso area before heading to Mexico for the North American Leaders’ Summit.
“I think what the president is signaling is a willingness now to work with House Republicans and Senate Democrats to forge some kind of consensus on immigration. I’ve been saying for a long time that this is a crisis,” Walling said, praising Biden for the plans. “I’m very happy to see the president going down to El Paso. He’s going to announce from the White House new measures with regards to Title 42, with an expansion of legal migrant visas for folks who want to come here legally that have sponsors in this country.”
“These are all positive things for the American people,” he continued. “You compare that to the chaos we’re seeing in the House of Representatives, you’re seeing real presidential leadership on the border,” Walling said.
Faulkner cut him off, saying, “I’m gonna stop you there because I think you’re really going to be angry with yourself when you watch this back and you actually compared people dying at the border to people having political conversations inside the House of Representatives. So I’m going to help save you for yourself.”
Watch:
“My heart breaks for every migrant we’ve lost and every border agent we’ve lost,” Walling responded, “It’s a good thing to see the president going there, Harris.”
As of Thursday, the House of Representatives has not elected a speaker with Rep.-elect Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), the expected next speaker, unable to garner enough support among conservatives as a group of 20 Republicans have rallied in opposition against McCarthy, nominating Reps.-elect Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Byron Donalds (R-FL) in hopes of replacing McCarthy with other Republicans catching the eyes of potential voters.
