Famed podcaster Joe Rogan has called out TV sensation Oprah Winfrey and former First Lady Michelle Obama for being hypocritical in their speeches at the Democratic National Convention (DNC).
Winfrey, who is a multi-millionaire and owns multiple lavish homes, said she was the subject of “income inequality” in the U.S. during her speech. She also criticized former President Donald Trump as she said that the work of preserving a democracy “requires standing up to life’s bullies.”
In response, the former president’s campaign posted a letter that Winfrey wrote to Trump in 2000, where she suggested that he would be a good future president.
“Too bad we’re not running for office,” Winfrey wrote. “What a team!”
Like Winfrey, Obama also touched on the subject of income inequality, painting herself as a victim while subtly taking shots at Trump.
The former first lady said her mother taught her “the meaning of hard work and humility and decency.”
“She and my father didn’t aspire to be wealthy,” Obama said. “In fact, they were suspicious of folks who took more than they needed. They understood that it wasn’t enough for their kids to thrive if everyone else around us was drowning.”
During an episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” on Thursday, Rogan slammed Winfrey and Obama for their blatantly hypocritical speeches.
“How about Oprah?” Rogan asked. “Oprah was talking about her and Trump running together, and now she’s speaking to the DNC that he’s a threat to democracy and she’s up there talking about income inequality, like, ‘Hey lady … you’re rich as f*ck,’ I’m like, ‘How is that equal.’”
“And also when Michelle Obama was saying, you know, I think she was saying her mother or grandmother was always suspicious of people who took more than they needed, like, you are worth so much money. That’s so crazy. You did it on a civil servant’s salary which is insane,” Rogan said.
As the New York Post noted, Rogan was not the only major media figure to criticize Winfrey’s remarks on income inequality.
Conservative commentator Dana Loesch also slammed the TV personality for her hypocrisy on the DNC stage.
“Kinda weird for Oprah, with her Hawaiian estate and multiple homes, expensive wardrobes, frequent luxury vacations, etc., to talk about income inequality,” Loesch said.
In her speech, Obama attacked Trump for “failing forward” and claimed, “We will never benefit from the affirmative action of generation wealth.”
However, Obama’s daughter, Sasha Obama, already has $10 million and has inherited $8.5 million through her trust fund which includes multiple real estate assets and investments in stock markets.
The former first lady was heavily rebuked over her comments about generation wealth.
“I still can’t believe Michelle Obama called generational wealth a form of affirmative action. In other words, she doesn’t want anyone to be able to have generational wealth in this country. Well, except the $100 million or so she’ll leave to her kids,” conservative commentator Joey Mannarino said.
In June 2023, after the Supreme Court struck down race-based admission programs at colleges and universities across the country, Obama expressed her dissatisfaction with the end of affirmative action in education.
“So today, my heart breaks for any young person out there who’s wondering what their future holds — and what kinds of chances will be open to them,” Obama wrote.
