Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA), known for his wit and wisdom, did not disappoint conservative viewers when he grilled notable climate activists and Biden supporters on Wednesday.
The entertaining dialogue occurred when Dr. Robert Litterman, a founding partner at Kepos Capital and chair of the Climate-Related Market Risk subcommittee, testified before Congress during a hearing to consider “climate-related economic risks and their costs to the federal budget and the global economy.”
Kennedy began by asking Litterman a basic question: Did he know how much it would cost for America to become carbon neutral by 2050 (a Biden-administration-supported United Nations goal).
Litterman indicated he did not know how much becoming carbon neutral would cost.
A surprised Kennedy pressed, “So you’re advocating we do these things, but you don’t know the ultimate cost?”
Unfazed, Litterman replied: “Yes, absolutely, I certainly don’t know the ultimate cost.”
Kennedy asked a second witness, Dr. Douglas Holtz-Eakin, President of the American Action Forum, the same question. Dr. Holtz-Eakin estimated the cost to be approximately $50 trillion.
Kennedy asked for clarification: “If we spend $50 trillion … how much will that lower world temperatures?”
Holtz-Eakin replied that he could not provide an answer because the results would be contingent on China’s support of the program.
After Litterman echoed Holtz-Eakin’s assessment, Kennedy asked the experts to comment on the probability of China and India not cooperating with the U.N. agenda.
Litterman replied: “If China and India do not help, I don’t know [how much lower temperatures would be].”
Kennedy followed up by asking Litterman if he thought Xi would do anything “inconsistent with China’s best interests in the name of global climate change?”
Litterman responded: “I understand that China has a federal carbon tax.”
Watch:
Kennedy restated his question, asking again if Litterman thought China would support a global initiative over something not in China’s best financial interest.
Litterman replied that he believed President Xi would cooperate with the multitrillion-dollar plan.
An astonished Kennedy asked Litterman, “Do you believe in the Tooth Fairy?”
“No sir,” replied Litterman.
“Do you believe in the Easter Bunny?” Kennedy pressed.
“No sir,” replied Litterman.
With a tinge of humor, Kennedy pressed further. “Do you believe that Jimmy Hoffa died of natural causes?”
“No sir,” Litterman said.
Kennedy seemed satisfied he made his point.
The Daily Caller noted that in 2021, President Biden expressed support for the U.N. carbon net-zero emissions by 2050 plan but has yet to present a funding plan.
