Anheuser-Busch has joined Coca-Cola, IBM, Getty Images, PayPal, Oracle, Boingo Wireless, Alto Pharmacy and Adobe in promoting their support for the LGBTQ+ community. The Anheuser-Busch company recently partnered with trans activist Dylan Mulvaney to promote its Bud Light product.
Music performer Kid Rock responded to the news by posting his dissatisfaction on Twitter.
The 52-year-old performer’s video opens with Kid Rock saying: “Grandpa’s feeling a little frisky today. Let me say something to all of you and be as clear and concise as possible.”
The performer, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, then reveals he has a semi-automatic rifle and fires multiple rounds into cases of Bud Light beer.
Ritchie concluded his video with an expletive aimed at the beer company.
Anheuser-Busch’s announced its decision to partner with Mulvaney on April 1. Many questioned whether or not the announcement was a joke since Busch announced the partnership on “April Fools’ Day.”
Mulvaney celebrated the partnership by posting a video — showing him in Audrey Hepburn-type attire and seated behind a small table with Bud Light cans. “Bud Light sent me possibly the best gift ever — a can with my face on it,” Mulvaney said in the video:
The recent NCAA basketball tournament shared their support by sharing the Bud Light video and the hashtag, “#budlightpartner.”
Responding to pushback to the partnership, an Anheuser-Busch spokesperson told Fox News:
Anheuser-Busch works with hundreds of influencers across our brands as one of many ways to authentically connect with audiences across various demographics and passion points. From time to time, we produce unique commemorative cans for fans and for brand influencers, like Dylan Mulvaney. This commemorative can was a gift to celebrate a personal milestone and is not for sale to the general public.
In 2019, Anheuser-Busch sold limited edition rainbow beer cans in a show of support to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLADD) organization and Gay Pride month.
Kid Rock is among many on Twitter calling for patrons to boycott Anheuser-Busch products.
“I’ve been drinking Bud Lite for more than 20 years; sadly, I had my last one yesterday. Deciding on a new non-bud owned alternative today,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Fire your marketing director. He/she/they just sank your company into the ground,” another wrote.
