Representative Madison Cawthorn (R-NC), 26, the youngest member of Congress, claimed that powerful government leaders have invited him to an orgy and done cocaine in front of him,” according to the Daily Caller.
Cawthorn made the claims during an interview posted on Twitter by PatriotTakes.

John Lovell began the interview by referencing the hit Netflix show House of Cards, a political drama known to touch on the dark side of the powerful in the D.C. beltway. Lovell then asked Cawthorn:
“How much, in your opinion, because you’re — you’ve been behind the veil. Is this a fictitious show, or is this more closer to, like, a documentary? Is it that bad?”
Cawthorn responded: “I heard a former president that we had in the 90s was asked the question about this, and he gave an answer that I thought was so true, and he said the only thing that’s not accurate in that show is that you could never get a piece of legislation about education passed that quickly.”
Business Insider attributes the quote to former President Bill Clinton, and also notes that the show’s lead actor, Kevin Spacey, said that Clinton told him directly that “House of Cards is 99% accurate.”
Lovel commented that the series is noted for being “so dirty” as it profiles the seedy side of Washington’s struggle with “power, money, and perversion.”
Cawthorn indicated that his experience in D.C has left him somewhat disillusioned: “Aside from…the sexual perversion that goes on in Washington, I mean it, being kind of a young guy in Washington — with the average age of probably 60 or 70 — and I look at all these people, a lot of them that I, you know, I’ve looked up to through my life. I’ve always paid attention to politics guys that, you know, then all of a sudden you get invited to like, well, ‘hey we’re going to have kind of a sexual get together at one of our homes. You should come,'” he said.
Cawthorn continued. “[And] the fact there’s some of the people that are leading on the movement to try and remove addiction in our country and then you watch them doing, you know, a key bump of cocaine right in front of you,”
It appears some are hesitant to respond directly to Cawthorn’s comments. However, a few seized the opportunity to try to cast a disparaging light on conservative Republicans:
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) posted a comment on Twitter:
“Well, I’ve never seen that, but I also don’t run in the far right free caucus circles. So maybe?”
Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) tweeted: “Based on this interview of GOP Rep Madison Cawthorn, I just have to say, wow, @HouseGOP Caucus is much wilder than I thought.”
