Authorities have arrested a man for vandalizing an art gallery in Manhattan where Hunter Biden’s art pieces are being sold.
The story: Rob Webber, who defaced the artwork that included a duck-taped banana to a wall at Art Basel in 2019, filmed himself walking into the Georges Berges Gallery in SoHo, New York City on Friday where he spray-painted the words “Daddy” backward on the wall. New York Police Department’s representative confirmed that Webber has been arrested for vandalizing artwork in the gallery in a statement to the Washington Examiner.
Authorities said that he defaced a painting worth $14,500. Webber told the police that he intended to spray paint the phrase “Daddy is a war criminal,” according to a prosecutor who spoke at Webber’s arraignment in Manhattan criminal court, the New York Post reports.
He was charged with criminal mischief and assault.
The video shows that an employee at the gallery tried to detain Webber from behind in what the employee described as a “citizen’s arrest.”
“You’re assaulting me, you are assaulting me, sir. Get off of me,” Webber said to the employee. “You have no right to constrain me like this.”
At one point, Webber asked the employee: “What, you’re arresting me ’cause your down with Biden’s war crimes?”
“Joe Biden is a war criminal, and you support his son’s work to launder his money,” he tells the employee.
Employees manage to hold Webber until police arrived and arrested him the video shows. Before he was placed into police custody, Webber threw a pile of money in the air and repreatedly asked the employee to let go of him.
“Get off me, buddy! Let go of me! Let go of me! S–thead!” he screams in the video. “You just assaulted me over and over!”
At the beginning of the video, Webber says:
“As we all know, going back for many, many years – roughly 40 years – Joe Biden has involved himself in all kinds of shenanigans … Ask any politician – you can’t avoid being corrupted by the office. Maybe he went in with good intentions, but he’s been corrupted over the years. He’s worked with segregationists, Klansmen. And now, I don’t even know what’s going on with this gallery situation but he can’t stop bombing Syria or Iraq and someone should say something about it, so let’s go see Hunter Biden’s gallery.”
Worth noting: Webber announced the stunt earlier on Friday in a Facebook post.
“Art gallery promotes crime family. What will happen today is no worse than Ellis Gallagher scribbling with chalk that washes off in the rain,” he wrote, according to the Daily Mail.
The outlet also shared a clip of Webber’s arrest.
Webber has sued the Trump administration: He claimed that a staffer threw him into a table in 2015 and received $20,000 in damages as part of the settlement agreement, according to Business Insider.
