A Florida congressman blasted a senior Justice Department lawyer that took the Fifth about Hunter Biden during a Thursday hearing.
Assistant Attorney General for National Security Matthew Olsen invoked the government version of not answering embarassing or incriminating questions.
“I’m not going to talk about any potential, ongoing investigations as I sit here,” AAG Olsen told Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz, Fla., according to a Daily Caller report.
Gaetz wanted Olsen’s take on whether Hunter Biden’s business dealings represent a threat to national security. He reportedly accused the attorney general’s office of taking no action in investigating possible criminal activity by the president’s son.
“Is Hunter Biden a national security threat?” the representative pressed the Justice Department lawyer.
“That’s not a question that would come before me,” Olsen replied.
“You’re the head of the National Security division, so it seems sort of on the nose,” Gaetz fired back at Olsen’s deflection.
Gaetz further questioned the Justice Department lawyer about Hunter Biden’s laptop. The computer reportedly contained damaging files and emails describing his business dealings with Ukrainian energy company Burisma and the Chinese energy company, CEFC China Energy.
The president’s son was paid $11 million over five years by Burisma, according to an NBC report.
Hunter Biden and his uncle reportedly received nearly $5 million from the Chinese energy company, according to a Washington Post report.
Olsen declined to answer questions about the infamous laptop reportedly left at a Delaware computer repair shop.
“Do you know where it is?” Gaetz grilled Olsen. “You come here and tell us you follow the facts and the law but you can’t even follow a laptop that you’ve had for three years.”
“I’m not going to talk about any potential, ongoing investigations as I sit here,” he answered.
Olsen stressed his division discusses such matters in open court.

Gaetz heatedly countered that the Justice Department’s National Security division refuses to investigate any “derogatory” detail about the president’s son.
“But you aren’t speaking about, you know who is speaking about it,” Gaetz asked. “The whistleblowers from the FBI who’ve gone to Senator [Chuck] Grassley and said that you guys purposely take any information that is derogatory about Hunter Biden and you go and rathole it so that you never have to speak about it in any circumstance.”
The Florida Republican wondered aloud if the Justice Department realized that Americans lost faith and confidence in the Justice Department when they hear about whistleblower reports then listen to Justice officials refuse to comment in congressional hearings.
“You know why you don’t speak about it?” Gaetz continued to hammer Olsen. “Because it’s about Hunter Biden. You guys have no problem leaking about other stuff, right? You guys have no problem tagging parents at school board meetings as a national security threat, but when all of the facts and all of the logic regarding the corruption of Hunter Biden, you don’t want to speak to that at all.”
