Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) blasted House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) in a speech nominating Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) for speaker of the House.

Gaetz accused McCarthy of corruption and working against the interests of Republicans. His speech followed Jordan nominating McCarthy for speaker and came after he voted for Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) in the first round of votes.

“Maybe the right person for speaker of the House isn’t someone who wants it so bad,” Gaetz said.

“Maybe the right person for the job of speaker of the House isn’t someone who has sold shares of themself for more than a decade to get it. Maybe Jim Jordan is the right person for speaker of the House because he is not beholden to the lobbyists and special interests who have corrupted this place and corrupted this nation under the leadership of both Republicans and Democrats.”‘

Gaetz was not the only Republican to go against McCarthy. The Other Republicans who blocked McCarthy’s bid included Reps. Dan Bishop (NC), Lauren Boebert (CO), Josh Brecheen (OK), Mike Cloud (TX), Andrew Clyde (GA), Eli Crane (AZ), Bob Good (VA), Paul Gosar (AZ), Andy Harris (MD), Anna Paulina Luna (FL), Mary Miller (IL), Ralph Norman (SC), Andy Ogles (TN), Scott Perry (PA), Matt Rosendale (MT), Chip Roy (TX), Keith Self (TX), and Andy Biggs (AZ).

Rep. Boebert is also not happy with McCarthy.

As RTM previously reported: “During Tuesday morning meetings in advance of today’s key vote, which Fox News depicted as “very hostile,” Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO) was caught on a hot mic stating that McCarthy’s strategy for unifying the party and moving forward as Speaker was “bulls***.””
