Former Fox News host and current Sirius XM podcast star Megyn Kelly reported that Fox News Media is attempting to smear Tucker Carlson by leaking unflattering out-of-context clips and messages to left-leaning news outlets and refusing to release him from his contract — effectively silencing Tucker through the upcoming 2024 election cycle.
Fox executives unexpectedly fired their No. 1 host on April 24. Since then, Tucker has minimally commented on the turn of events, but surrogates and supporters have fiercely criticized the network for the unexpected move.
Tucker is reportedly fielding multiple offers and broadcast possibilities — all of which seem to be a threat to Fox News, whose ratings in Carlson’s old prime-time slot are down more than 50%.
Some wonder if Fox executives determined that paying out Tucker’s reported $20,000,000 contract was worth it to keep him silenced through the crucial upcoming election cycle.
Kelly mentioned that her attorney, Brian Freedman, who also represents Carlson, noted: “The idea that anyone is going to silence Tucker and prevent him from speaking to his audience is beyond preposterous.”
Kelly also shared that Carlson and his allies are ready to fight back — via a push for a boycott, legal action and by disclosing information Fox News Media executives would prefer not to be made public.
Tucker knows where the bodies are buried,” Kelly said, quoting a source reportedly close to Carlson. “And he is ready to start drawing a map.”
Axios also reported that Carlson is preparing to fight back against Fox News.
Kelly, a Carlson supporter, encouraged a boycott of Fox News, saying: “People should tune out at the 8:00 p.m. hour. … people should tune out completely.”
“If they lose a month to MSNBC, heads are going to roll over there,” Kelly said. “They want Tucker to just sit there on his couch and just cash his Fox checks and basically be immobilized by Fox News.”
Kelly noted that Tucker held the high ground in the matter and criticized Fox for firing Carlson without justification — other than his inclination to lean right in expressing his views.
In a parting word of advice, Kelly urged Tucker to breach the contract: “That’s what Tucker should do. … Tucker should breach. He should come out, he should talk, he should start a rival news network, he should quit, he should forfeit the money.”
Kelly continued: “He should breach. Forfeit the money and let Fox News take him to court and the sole issue will be whether Fox News has the right to silence him for the entire election season. The guy who served them loyally for a decade.”
Kelly added that when she left Fox, she refused to sign a nondisclosure agreement so her reporting and commentary would not be restricted.
