A panel discussion about the 2024 Republican presidential primary became heated on Thursday as proponents of the two leading candidates traded jabs and interrupted each other.
On Thursday, panelists on Newsmax’s “John Bachman Now” debated the merits of their chosen candidates.
Defending DeSantis after the Florida governor’s shambolic campaign announcement via Twitter Spaces was Newsweek Senior Editor-at-Large Josh Hammer, while Trump was supported by Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for MAGA Inc.
“DeSantis’ botched campaign announcement proves that he and his team are not ready for primetime,” Leavitt said.
“He proposes a national federal sales tax, he voted to cut Social Security, he has no plan to end the war in Ukraine. President Trump cut taxes, secured the border, reinvested in our economy. He is the Day One leader that America needs.”
“Look, I mean, Karoline has her talking points and that’s cute and everything, but the reality here is that Republican primary—” Bachman began to retort, before Leavitt interrupted him.
“They’re truth; my talking points are the truth!” Leavitt interjected.
“Voters are ready for a winner. They are sick of losing, they are sick of relitigating an election from two-and-a-half years ago, they are sick of Stormy Daniels and all of the crap. This country is going to hell in a handbasket; it’s time to put policy on the agenda and to start winning.”

“You sound like a Democrat!” “You’re reciting your Democrat talking points. My talking points are truth and polls prove it,” Leavitt concluded.
Throughout the 2023 calendar year, polling has consistently showed Trump as the leading Republican candidate for next year’s presidential nomination. DeSantis’ numbers have fallen considerably in FIveThirtyEight’s aggregate measure of national polls, declining from 30% support last March to little over 20% as of this writing.
