In a happening unbecoming of those holding high office in the nation whose official motto is In God We Trust, Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY), had to order members of the House Judiciary Committee to mute their microphones after cursing was picked-up on a ‘hot mic’ and interrupted the roll call vote.
As a roll call vote was taking place on an amendment to the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act, the audio feed for the hearing picked up cursing from “the office of an unknown member.”
The comments interrupted the vote, forcing Democrat Representative Karen Bass to repeat herself, according to The Daily Caller.
In a rare rebuke to members of his own party, Chairman Nadler said, “I remind all members to mute themselves.”
The amendment to the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act creates new departments within the Department of Homeland Security. The amendment vote passed, with members voting along party lines.
Democrats continue to use COVID as an excuse to keep offices closed and conduct hearings and voting remotely or by proxy.
Republicans have criticized this practice saying it’s time for elected officials to lead the way in getting back to work.
As President Biden has called for a “return to normal,” Republicans are urging Democrats to open their offices, some of which have been closed for about two years.
Pollsters expect Republicans to make this a campaign issue in the upcoming 2022 midterms.
