United States Senator John Kennedy (R-Louis.) appeared on Fox News’ Hannity and criticized President Joe Biden for urging Congress to pass two spending bills and claiming that the bills will cost “zero dollars.”
The story: Senator Kennedy sat for an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity this week and slammed President Biden for his administration’s agenda of passing two spending bills through Congress that address a range of issues, including infrastructure, the country’s social safety net, and climate change.
Kennedy also chided the President for claiming that the bills would come at no cost to the American people.
On September 25, President Biden tweeted: “My Build Back Better Agenda costs zero dollars. Instead of wasting money on tax breaks, loopholes, and tax evasion for big corporations and the wealthy, we can make a once-in-a-generation investment in working America. And it adds zero dollars to the national debt.”
Kennedy’s comments: “President Biden has two bills that he’s pushing, the fake infrastructure bill, which will spend $400 million that we don’t have…and the spending orgy reconciliation bill, which, by the way, President Biden says is free,” Kennedy began.
Criticizing the characterization of the spending bills as free, Kennedy argued that the bill would instead come at a high cost, both in terms of money and financial privacy.
“I would remind you that mice die in mouse traps because they think cheese is free,” Kennedy cautioned. “This bill is not free, it will cost everybody.”
Kennedy, who has represented Louisiana in the U.S. Senate since 2017, then went on to claim that the bill would authorize the IRS to monitor citizens’ checking account, directing viewers to learn more at his website.
“I don’t know about you, but it gives me the creep vibes,” Kennedy told Hannity.
“But this is one more example why, at least in my state, President Biden is about as popular as a fever blister,” Kennedy quipped near the end of the segment.
That comment prompted Hannity to respond, “By the way, I’ve read they might have medicine for that, I don’t know.”
“The medicine is to kill this bill,” Kennedy retorted.
“Republicans aren’t perfect, but there are so many members now on the other side, including President Biden, that are crazy,” Kennedy concluded. “I’ve never seen anything like this.”
