The story. Senator Ted Cruz has accused the Biden Administration of attempting a series of egregious power grabs. On October 6th, Senator Cruz rebuked U.S. Deputy Attorney General Kristen Clarke for the Department of Justice’s recent move to silence parents concerned with the introduction of CRT (Critical Race Theory) curriculum in schools.
The details: Senator Cruz has called out democratic party and agency leaders for legislation and rulings he argues are hyper-partisan, divisive, and designed to increase political control of the democratic party.
The Senator has spoken out against attempts to derail the election reform bill H.R. 4 (the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act), House Speaker Pelosi’s denial of Republican autonomy to appoint committee members to the Select Committee Investigating the January 6th protest at the Capitol, President Biden’s COVID-19 eviction moratorium, moves to abolish the filibuster, and the formation of exploratory committees to lay the groundwork for expanding the U.S. Supreme Court.
At a Wednesday hearing for the Department of Justice (DOJ), Senator Cruz put U.S. Deputy Attorney General Kristen Clarke on the hot seat. Cruz pointedly asking Deputy Clarke to explain the department’s new policy of categorizing parents who express concerns regarding CRT as “domestic terrorists.”
Cruz referred to an October 4th DOJ memorandum directing the FBI to “meet with local leaders across the country to address potential threats and harassment against school board members, teachers and staff at future board meetings. Cruz argued that the treatment was akin to treating parents as domestic terrorists.
U.S. Deputy Attorney General Kristen Clarke defended the directive, stating that it was drafted in response to threats against “public servants,” which, she said, contradicts “our nation’s core values.”
During the exchange, Senator Cruz asked Deputy Clarke if she believed “parents objecting at school boards are domestic terrorists?” “I don’t, Senator” was her reply.
Deputy Clarke went on to affirm a parent’s right to “challenge” the introduction of certain curriculum introduced at the School Board level. She also noted that the National School Board Association had requested the Biden Administration to enforce federal statutes to protect educators, board members, and administrative staff.
Senator Cruz expressed his strong feeling that teaching CRT in schools is harmful to children and detrimental to unity, noting that it is said to advocate “antiracism” but promotes viewing society through the lens of race, which he argues, is a form of racism.
Senator Cruz grilled Clarke on what he perceived as a policy targeting conservatives, noting the distinction between the way the Biden administration treats BLM and parent groups. At the Wednesday hearing for the Department of Justice, Cruz said: “It’s amazing, you’re not willing to condemn people who are murdering police officers and firebombing cities, because your politics align with them, but at the same time when it comes to parents at school boards you’re perfectly comfortable with calling a mom at a PTA meeting a domestic terrorist.”
