A segment on ABC’s “The View” on Monday was marked by irony as the co-hosts argued and spoke over each other while talking about toxicity in the workplace — while at work.
Co-hosts on “The View,” a talk show with a reputation for running off co-hosts who disagree with the left-leaning majority, were discussing “toxic femininity” in the workplace and how it is harmful to women when tempers flared.
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin hit back at colleague Ana Navarro when she interrupted her on multiple occasions as Griffin attempted to express her opinion. The New York Post described it as “a tense exchange.”
Griffin said: “I think it is real though. We’ve come a long way in kind of critiquing some of the male practices that are not helpful and that needed to be called out. And I think that women have made a ton of progress, but we can also be each other’s worst enemies. It’s still the case, and I hate to say it. Some of the worst bosses I’ve had have been women, and sometimes colleagues in the workplace who are women. And I always think of the Madeleine Albright quote–“
“That’s what happens when you work with Kellyanne Conway,” interrupted Navarro — referring to former President Trump’s communications director and adviser.
Griffin hit back, first finishing the Albright quote and then addressing Navarro’s interruptions:
“Madeleine Albright always said ‘there’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help and support other women.’ That’s something I try to live by. I think that we have a duty to kind of give that back, especially for the women who come after us.”
Griffin added: “I can’t really get a word in without you attacking me. So, I wouldn’t say this is a totally different environment of women supporting each other.”
Navarro feigned innocence, saying, “Oh, I haven’t attacked you yet.”
The topic changed after a station break, and the panel did not refer to the heated exchange for the remainder of the broadcast.
Those familiar with the program know that both Griffin and Navarro have a history of sparring while on air.
According to the Sun, in September, Goldberg was forced to step in between Navarro and Sunny Hostin, who were arguing after Hostin disparaged Navarro’s political affiliation.
Griffin clashed with Hostin in November after Hostin referred to “white women” voting for conservative candidates as “roaches voting for Raid.”
Last month Hostin offended Griffin when she claimed: “Jesus would be the grand martial at the pride parade.”
