President Joe Biden on Wednesday was greeted by supporters of former President Donald Trump during his visit to Pennsylvania.
The story: When the president’s motorcade arrived in Macungie, Lehigh County, two large groups, who were waving signs along their route, greeted the president, many of which were supporters of the former president.
The Trump supporters chanted the former president’s name and held Trump signs as well as “F— Biden” signs.
In detail: Biden traveled to Macungie, Lehigh County where he touted the $1.2 trillion infrastructure plan that lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, as well as the White House, have been negotiating for weeks. He also toured the Mack-Lehigh Valley Operations Manufacturing Facility which produces Mack trucks.
During his stop, the president announced that they have reached a bipartisan agreement on the major issues in the legislation that Republicans blocked earlier this month. He promoted the Buy American plan and called for more union jobs.
“In recent years, ‘Buy American’ has become a hollow promise,” Biden told the crowd at the Mack-Lehigh Valley Operations Manufacturing Facility in Lower Macungie Township, near Allentown, Pa. “But my administration is going to make ‘Buy American’ a reality. And I’m putting the weight of the federal government behind that commitment.”
“If American companies know we’re going to be buying from them, they’re going to be more inclined to hire and make key investments in the future in their companies,” he added.
Biden won Macungie by 524 votes in the November election. Pennsylvania, where Trump campaigned in the state at least twice last year, was a major battleground state.
This was Biden’s second visit to Pennsylvania in two weeks. He gave a speech in the state on July 13.
Worth noting: After Biden’s announcement about the bipartisan agreement on the infrastructure plan, the Senate advanced the legislation in a procedural vote where 17 voted with Democrats. Some parts of the bill remain unwritten but the vote means the lawmakers can now continue to resolve the outstanding issues.
