Friends and foes tend to concede that former President Donald Trump has good credentials regarding handling the nation’s economy. Not surprisingly, during CNN’s recent town hall event, Trump highlighted his accomplishments and contrasted the economy of 2019–2020 (his last two years in office) with the last two years President Joe Biden has been in office.
Turning Wednesday’s town hall event, Trump pledged to jump-start the nation’s economy.
During the part of the program when potential voters were invited to share their comments and questions, several expressed that since Trump left the Oval Office, many families have been hard-pressed by record inflation.
Several questioners noted their concerns about the rise in gas, energy and food prices.
Though CNN host Kaitlan Collins attempted to steer the discussion away from the economy, attendees at the event kept bringing the issue front and center. Trump’s responses seemed to win over the crowd, who often applauded and, at one point, offered a standing ovation.
After noting the negative impact Biden administration policies were having on herself and many she knows, event participant Danielle Rieger posed a question to candidate Trump:
“Over the past two years, we have seen the prices for everything skyrocket. If elected president again, what is the first thing you would do to help bring down costs to make things more affordable?”
Trump’s response was immediate and clear: “Drill, baby, drill,” he said with a smile as the crowd erupted in applause.

Many on the left have sharply criticized CNN for hosting the event, which most say elevated candidate Trump at President Biden’s expense.
