Fox News host Tucker Carlson urged Republican candidates to make fun of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) if they want to win in November. The Fox host believes Republicans won’t win by involving the U.S. deeper in the Ukraine war with Russia.
Carlson played a video featuring the South Carolina senator saying he trusts Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky judgement when it comes to how much U.S. help is needed. President Zelensky requests for U.S. aid echo lyrics from the Credence Clearwater Band’s song “Fortunate Son.”
“And when you ask them, ‘How much should we give?’ Ooh, they only answer, ‘More, more, more, more!'”
If U.S. leaders follow that script, it won’t be long before American boots are on the ground in Ukraine.
Carlson opined Republicans risk defeat if they echo Graham’s call for the U.S. to get more involved in Ukraine and other foreign hotspots.
“Okay, so just to be clear to Republican candidates, that was Lindsey Graham,” Carlson said. “Your job is to make fun of Lindsey Graham and to disavow Lindsey Graham; your job is not to emulate Lindsey Graham and steal his talking points.”
“And if you do emulate Lindsey Graham and steal his talking points, you will lose,” added Carlson. “And the losing candidates did just that.”
The Fox host argued that Washington congressional candidate Joe Kent illuminated a better path for electoral victory in November. Candidate Kent told Carlson in March legislators should put more effort into fixing American’s issues before trying to fix broken foreign nations.
“Americans have a right to feel sad about what’s happening in their country and to expect their politicians to work on fixing it,” Carlson commented. “So if more Republicans in November say what you heard Joe Kent say, they will win. If they talk about the issues people actually care about in this country, issues that are relevant to their lives, they will win.”
The conservative commentator claimed that is what led to Republican victories in Florida board of education elections.
“They weren’t talking about Ukraine, they were talking about the issues that matter to the voters in Florida,” remarked Carlson. “Family, safety, happiness, the right of parents to decide what their kids learn in school. That message wins, obviously.”
Graham is an outspoken advocate for U.S. policies to help arm, train and fund Ukraine. The southern senator supported supplying the breakaway Baltic nation with fighter jets to create a Ukrainian no-fly zone in May.
He controversially called for assassinating Russian President Vladimir Putin.
