President Joe Biden’s falling approval rating was highlighted today when a mother, who accepted the Medal of Valor Award on behalf of her police officer son, expressed disinterest when receiving the award from the president, then rolled her eyes when she glanced at the widow of her son’s partner.
New York Police Department officers Wilbert Mora and his partner Jason Rivera — both killed in the line of duty in January 2022 — were posthumously awarded the Medal of Valor.
The officers were responding to a domestic dispute in Harlem, New York, amid Democratic pressure to defund police.
Officials at the White House asked Mora’s mother Gabina to accept the award on behalf of her son. Pictures and video of her reactions during the award ceremony have gone viral.
The grieving mother appears unimpressed and disinterested as the president of the United States offers condolences. Then, as Biden hands Gabina the Medal of Valor, she turns to Rivera’s widow and rolls her eyes.
Mora had served with the NYPD for four years.
The president also honored the heroism of police officers from Texas and Colorado, a sheriff deputy from Ohio and three FDNY firefighters.
“I don’t know all of you,” the president said, “but I do know you. From small towns to big cities, you’re cut from the same cloth. You run into danger when everyone else runs away from danger.”
Biden added: “I think one of the hardest jobs in America, what you signed up for. “You represent the best of who we are as Americans.”
Twitter users quickly chimed in on the video:
“Her face says ‘I wouldn’t let this guy drive me a quarter mile down the street and he’s the president,'” one wrote.
“Make Facial Expressions Great Again,” wrote another.
“The Eyebrows Seen Around The World,” one commented.
