President Joe Biden pulled a Ron Burgundy during a Friday White House briefing that his staff removed from the record. He spoke verbatim the words on the teleprompter that were probably meant as instructions from a speechwriter, according to a Daily Wire report.

A Twitter user posted a video excerpt of a CBS News broadcast of the president’s remarks from the Roosevelt Room.

“It is noteworthy that the percentage of women who register to vote and cast a ballot is consistently higher than the percentage of the men who do so, end of quote, repeat the line,” President Biden clearly says. Then, he repeats the line, which amused many Twitter users.

The same user who posted the video added a follow-up post that included a bit from the Ron Burgundy movie. The producer yells at the writers because they put a question mark after the tag line, “I’m Ron Burgundy?”

“Anything you put on that prompter, Burgundy will read,” he explains. Apparently, Biden is similarly afflicted.

Within minutes of the post appearing on the social media platform, a White House staffer tried to do a little damage control.

“No,” exclaimed White House Assistant Press Secretary Emilie Simons in response. “He said, ‘let me repeat that line.'”

Compounding the obvious attempt at whitewashing an embarrassing moment for the president is the sanitized version that appears in the official transcript.

“It is noteworthy that the percentage of women who registered to vote and cast a ballot is consistently higher than the percentage of the men who do so. End of quote. Let me repeat the line,” reads the White House version of the speech.

It is unclear if Simons is responsible for the sanitized version of the presidential stumble that appears on the White House website. What is clear is that administration officials appear fearful of allowing human errors on Biden’s part to enter the public record.

“Yes, I totally believe you,” the Twitter user responded to Simons, “and your boss is definitely not a vegetable.”
